| INTERPRETING
Interpreting involves spoken words whereas translation involves written words.
My languages for interpreting are French and Spanish.
SOLICITORS AND LEGAL WORK
I regularly work as a French interpreter in courts, police stations, prisons, probation, and with solicitors.
I interpret for French-speakers who appear before the courts as defendants or witnesses but are unable to communicate effectively in English.
I interpret at out-of-court meetings between solicitor and client and in witness preparation sessions.
I do transcription work. This involves providing a written version in English of the foreign language tape-recorded interview.
FACE-TO-FACE / MEETINGS
My area of specialisation is the law. I also work in many other areas including medicine and engineering.
In consecutive interpreting I interpret what is said immediately a person has finished speaking.
The main advantage of this form of interpreting is that it allows a very high degree of accuracy. You should note that it inevitably increases the duration of your meeting.
CONFERENCES
In simultaneous interpreting I listen and interpret in real time. My experience is largely in court cases where I use the court's electronic audio equipment.
I also do "whispered" interpretation at business conferences. "Whispered" interpreting is used in situations where the majority of your audience speaks one language, and a limited number of people do not speak that language.
I sit or stand next to an individual or small group and interpret
simultaneously in a whisper. This is similar to simultaneous interpreting
but microphones and booths are not required.
This form of interpreting requires experience and mental stamina.
TELEPHONE INTERPRETING
I am experienced in interpreting conversations by telephone.
This is very useful where it is not convenient or possible for you to be with the person you wish to speak to.
It can be arranged nationally and internationally, at your workplace or your home.
COURT INTERPRETING
I am listed on the NRPSI (National Register of Public Service Interpreters).
I interpret for French-speakers who appear before the courts as defendants or witnesses but are unable to communicate effectively in English.
I also work at out-of-court meetings between solicitor and client and in preparation sessions with witnesses.
AVAILABILITY
Most of my work is in West Midlands. I am available to work anywhere in the United Kingdom. Also in France and Spain as required.
